Hi, my name is Billy Trudel, I have been a professional singer my entire adult life. In my carrier, I have had 3 recording contracts, toured around the world twice, and have worked with other great artist such as Elton John, Billy Joel and Sting. I have 27 years of experience in working in the music industry, and understand what it takes to be a successful singer/artist. Now I am taking the time to teach new inspiring vocalist my technique. If you live in the Los Angeles area and want to learn how to train your voice to be stronger, have better pitch, and more confidence, then let me teach you. e-mail me at billysvoice09@yahoo.com. But for all you bloggers out there, this will be an open forum to ask questions about proper singing. Now I'm not like other voice teachers that will sit at a piano and run scales with you, I want to show you how to center yourself, relax and let the voice within come out. This can be a place to ask me questions and hopefully, I'll be able to answer them for you. If your wanting to learn how to sing, or you are already singing, but having problems, then this is a good forum to help you understand what you need to do. Singing is a lot like meditation, you have to breath properly, focus, open your body and mind, feel how round you are inside, how relaxed you feel as you breath through your nose, and fill your lungs expand, giving you the energy to release the sound. This is what I like to call your house. Your house is a place where nothing can bother you, no stress, no fears, no worries, just bliss. When you are in your house, make it a place that makes you feel good. I like to imagine something from my passed that made me happy, but it has to be something or somewhere that know one or nothing can ever take away from you. Pure happiness! That is the center of everything you need to get started. 50% of singing is confidence, without it you will never be able to flow. Once you have visualized your house, and feel relaxed, then you are ready to start warming up. Take 2-3 nice and slow deep breaths through your nose, to get your body to open and vibrate. Now open your mouth and throat, as if you were yawning. A yawn opens your mouth, throat and chest to receive the proper amount of air so you can breath again. Now focus on your vocal chords, with your mouth wide open, click them together by making a ha sound. Try to be more robotic and less breathy. Go ha,ha,ha, then make a rattle noise, If your doing this right, you should feel a vibration on your vocal chords only. Rattling is something we all did when we were kids? Isn't that wild how we were already warming up and didn't know it.
Do this for a few minutes. Now that you are starting to warm up, start doing some vowels. A E I O U, but do them like a chant, low and buzzy. This helps stretch the vocal chords, and gets off some of the phlegm you have on them. Do this for a few minutes. Now take your tongue, place it on the roof of your mouth and hum for a few minutes. All of this is relaxing vibrations to warm up the voice. This is just the beginning of how to warm up, we will then start to discuss how to breath from your stomach, tighten your mussels, expand your chest. I have a great learning tool for that using a belt? There are a few steps you need to take before you start singing, Little by little I will post them on here. if you have question, just give me a shout and I'll get to you. Peace for now.....B http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKCnaI6URPw
You need a belt to learn how to belt
Now that you warmed up a little, I want to show you a cool technique on how to expand your chest and give yourself more room to sing. First you need to get a belt. Now I want you to wrap the belt around your chest, just under your breast, Take a deep breath, hold it, and strap the belt loosely around your chest, It's very important you don't make it tight, so if you blow the air out of your lungs, the belt will drop. But here's the kicker, I want you to take a deep breath through your nose, so that the belt is a little tight around your chest. Then slowly let your air out of your lungs, but try to keep the belt from falling. How can you do that? Here's how. When blowing your air out slowly, concentrate on keeping your chest expanded. If your chest stays expanded, the belt won't drop. This will take some time to get it right, and you will get a little sore from this work out, but what this will teach you, is to breath from your stomach, and keep your chest cavity open and round, so you will have room to belt out those notes. It's a very simple tool, but believe me it works. This will take the stress of tightening your stomach mussels to much and not allowing your body to relax. Now go try this!
